"The Coffee Crisis" (2003) (also available in French)
Direction: Santiago Bertolino
A co-production of CECI and Via le Monde (D.B.) inc.
Partners: the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC)
Length: 22 min. 30 sec.In 2001, international coffee prices fell dramatically, with serious repercussions for coffee producers in developing countries. In Guatemala, this crisis brought about a veritable socio-economic paralysis, since coffee makes up 30% of exports and generates hundreds of thousands of jobs. As it turns out, the entire international agri-export model is to blame. This film gives a voice to Guatemalans as well as to cooperants of CECI, an NGO providing support to a cooperative of small coffee producers in Guatemala (ASOBAGRI). This group was able to weather the crisis by developing the market for organic, fair-trade coffee.

"Si j'avais les ailes d'un ange..." (1998 - 2000) (in French)
"Si j'avais les ailes d'un ange" is a series of 26 episodes in which we embark on a voyage of discovery through Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America led by some 40 Canadian volunteers. The series illustrates today’s major challenges in international cooperation.
The only baggage carried by these individuals is their expertise and their irrepressible enthusiasm for learning, understanding and helping out. Criss-crossing the globe, they lead a life of adventure…but one that is entirely focused on the most disadvantaged populations in the World. The subjects are new cooperants, open-minded and eager to learn and serve in the field, at the request of local communities. They belong to the new school of thought in international cooperation: one that emphasizes sustainable development tailored to meet specific local needs.
