The other faces of the economy
Invest in people!

We are hoping you will answer our call this year. Seeing increases in worldwide crises in the last few years — financial, economical, social and ecological — the world is looking for new alternatives and innovative solutions. We must propose solutions that must be socially and economically sustainable, democratic, fair, and respectful of the environment, human rights, women and minorities. A tall order! But this is what CECI does, and it works!

It is through our own dedicated conviction that we invite you to support the CECI’s initiatives. Our experience in International Development and our knowledge of different models and philosophies in the field reinforce the need to take an economic path of sustainability, social justice and solidarity, and that is the way we at CECI most effectively intervene.

Inspired by your donations, Ceci can continue to fight poverty and social exclusion and together make a difference in the lives of thousands of women and men in Africa, Asia and the America. We couldn’t do it without your generous support!

Working together

For example, in Niger, CECI’s Women and Food Security project helped reduce the impact of the 2010 food crisis. By focusing on women, who represent a majority of farming labour and contribute to their family’s daily sustenance, the project affected 15,000 households who benefited from the sale of millet at a reasonable price. 85 grain banks were created to partly cover the food needs during the peak of the crisis. To ensure proper management, more than 300 people took an adult literacy course.

“The literacy courses taught us how to use numbers. It’s such a simple thing, but it has changed my life! Now I know my shoe size and I am able to buy shoes by myself. I can also use a cell phone,” says a woman from the village of Ijali, a beneficiary of the Women and Food Security project.

In the mountainous regions of western Nepal, the Sahakarya project has improved the socioeconomic situation of more than 55,000 households from 884 communities, by increasing the strength of women and community organizations. This project has inspired the Nepali government and funding agencies to continue in a similar vein.

Rewati Bohara, from the Baitadi district, relates her experience: “Our women’s group attended an orientation meeting that helped us prepare and submit a proposal to the VDC. The money we were granted (around Can $1,800) will be invested in professional development for women. So many changes have come about in my life since my training. My farm operates so well that soon I am going to be able to hire help. Now, I own my land and my home,” states a proud Bikha, a Nepali from the Jumla region whose income increased more than 62% thanks to the Sahakarya project.

CECI changes lives

All of these projects prove that by using the economy to serve women and men effectively, we can achieve results that are economically and socially sustainable.

Through its projects, CECI supports local communities in defining their economic future and achieving it themselves. By donating to CECI, you will transform the lives of thousands of men and women. One donation — your donation — will change lives.

CECI needs you in order to carry on the fight against poverty and exclusion.
