CECI promotes civil security in Salvador
CECI gratefully accepted the invitation from the Organization of American States (OAS) to participate as a civil society organization (CSO) to their 41st General Assembly, held in San Salvador from June 4 to 7, 2011. Under the central theme “Citizen Security in the Americas”, the event mobilized more than a thousand people from all Americas, including actors from the public sector, the private sector, the international community and the CSOs of the continent.
In the afternoon of June 5, the Honourable Diane Ablonczy, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas and Consular Affairs) and Head of the Canadian Delegation for the 41st General Assembly of the OAS, visited the Chacra neighbourhood in downtown San Salvador to learn more about the community project put in place by CECI and its partner RTI International. This project focuses successfully on preventing local crime and responding to natural disasters.
Ms. Diane Ablonczy, originally from Alberta, was on her first field visit since her recent nomination.
CECI was described by the Foreign Affairs Minister of Canada as “one of Canada’s leading non-governmental organizations”!
