Mali :: Victory for equality between Women and Men!

The CECI team working in Mali celebrates a major victory. On November 24th, the national policy of equality between women and men has been formally adopted. Louise Camiré, project manager of CECI in Mali exclaims:

"Truly, this is a great chapter for the Ministry for all women in Mali and also for us, the project team. We have supported the Ministry for three years in this folder. We have endorsed all stages of the design of the policy document through all phases of consultation in eight regions of Mali and in other sectoral ministries. All this work lead us to its adoption today, November 24th".

Since 2007, the CECI team devoted a lot of energy and efforts in this important project for equality between women and men. Mali is a country where women's participation in policy constitutes a major challenge. CECI, through the Gender Equality Project accompanied the ministry and civil organizations involved in all stages of the adoption of the national policy.

Through the process that led to the adoption of the policy, the active team in Mali reports that its members are now "more engaged, better positioned and equipped to promote social equality and a gender mainstreaming in their areas of intervention.

Following the adoption of national policy and to pursue the objective of strengthening the capacities of its partners to improve the status of women in Mali, the team plans to continue its interventions. In order to do so, our project manager, Louise Camiré will solicit support: "We must first find the necessary funding to take the next step of the process, the implementation of the policy."
