Odette McCarthy
Odette McCarthy has over 17 years of experience in international cooperation, particularly in managing volunteer cooperation programs in Africa and Haiti and developing partnerships between likeminded organizations. As a Program Manager, she has trained hundreds volunteer cooperants and project teams on gender equality (GE) and organizational development, and many partners around gender equality mainstreaming within their organizations.
She has also acted as an advisor to project teams to create gender analysis and monitoring/evaluation tools, to ensure the monitoring and evaluation of GE implementation strategies and to identify results and indicators. Partnership, collaboration and networking are at the heart of this record of accomplishment. The projects managed were in the following sectors: economic development, food security, governance, women’s rights, humanitarian assistance and education. In 2005, Ms. McCarthy actively participated in the process of developing a gender equity policy at Canadian Crossroads International, which was adopted in 2007.
In 2004, she created and marketed a family board game: Eve’s Quest, celebrating women in all spheres of life. She is currently an active member of CECI’s GE expert team at head office and a founding member of the Gender Equality Community of Practice, established in 2009.
