Nepal’s situation is extremely urgent as it deals with a second wave of COVID-19 that began in mid-April. The rate of spread of the virus is among the highest in the world and, about half of those tested are positive.
In April alone, 5000 people succumbed to the disease. Hospitals and clinics are simply not equipped to receive new patients and there is a critical shortage of oxygen. If this trend continues, some 800 000 people could contract the virus by mid-July, which will further add to the number of deaths.
