Press release - Taking action for equality with the Vues d'Afrique International Festival

News | Published at: April 04 2023

It is with renewed pleasure that CECI joins the Vues d'Afrique International Festival as an official partner in its programming. CECI is happy to build bridges between the world of cinema and that of international solidarity.

"Vues d'Afrique opens a window on the realities of several countries where CECI is present. Our collaboration is an opportunity to raise awareness among Montreal cinema enthusiasts about international solidarity issues by creating events that take into account the perspective of communities and women in these countries," explained CECI's Executive Director, Philippe Dongier

Taking action for Equality award

As in the previous edition, CECI will present an award for the best film in the category Taking action for Equality. This category aims to encourage films that illustrate the initiatives taken by people who fight daily for equality in the world. Among the hundred or films that will be presented during this 39th edition, a dozen works will be included in the category Acting for Equality.

This prize will be awarded by CECI to one of the best films in the category in question and will be presented at the festival's closing ceremony on April 30. The jury will be composed of people involved with CECI (volunteers, members of the CECI Ambassadresses Club). In addition to the purchase of the broadcasting rights for the winning film, a cash contribution of $1,500 will be allocated to the winning filmmaker.

2 events during the Festival

As part of this collaboration, CECI is co-organizing two activities during the festival.

On April 22, a discussion will be held on the themes of the environment and adaptation to climate change from a gender perspective. The second activity will take place on April 25 and will focus on gender-based violence.

These discussions will allow the public to combine words with actions through the testimonies of several CECI representatives, who, as actors in international development, will share their experiences on the issues of gender equality and their motivation to become concretely involved and incite positive change in the world. You are all cordially invited to these moments of exchange under the angle of international solidarity.

The award in the category of Taking action for Equality will be presented as part of the promotion of CECI's Volunteer Cooperation Program, which mobilizes Canadians to improve the living conditions of more than 2 million people in vulnerable situations, including at least 1.5 million women and young women. These activities are supported by the Government of Canada.  For more information
